Cooking Club
Shopper’s Choice is a gem of a place right here in town that sells everything you wish you could afford. Known worldwide for their online sales, they were started right here in Baton Rouge, and have a sophisticated and mouth-watering show room on Coursey Blvd. Many people have heard of Shopper’s Choice, especially regarding their expertise and knowledge in outdoor cooking and grills. The covered pavilions with multiple outdoor kitchens is enough to make you green with envy. But that isn’t all they have on their resume. They also sell indoor appliances, fireplaces, pots and pans, seasoning blends, and all sorts of other random awesomeness.
Also, they have a best-kept secret – an in-house chef who cooks daily meals for employees and customers (and who also happens to be my mom). Interested in a new grill or an amazing gumbo pot? A father’s day robotic grill cleaner? Anything else random? I recommend showing up around lunch time. Trust me, you won’t be sorry!
You would think these things in themselves would be enough, but Shopper’s Choice has taken it a step further and created a Cooking Club! This new little venture is destined for greatness. Register to reserve your seat by calling 225-910-6801, pay your $20 per person, and prepare to be amazed. You think $20 is too much? Let me tell you just how great of a bargain this is. Appetizers, gourmet meals, dessert, recipes, cooking tips and demos, plus adult beverages that all fit with a theme. WHAT!?!?! Yeah, try finding that for $20 bucks anywhere.
This cooking club is headed up by my mom Cathy (whose cooking skills are almost as good as her fun bubbly personality). She demos appetizers, meals and desserts while giving tips and tricks to make them perfect. Guest speakers and chefs from Shopper’s Choice staff make regular appearances, and the food is amazing (Believe me – I have been taste testing my whole life). Chime in with your own tips and tricks to make this a truly interactive and fun experience. You leave with a printout of the recipes and a very full tummy. Just to give you an idea, club meetings have included themes like Louisiana Food, Back to School, Tailgates, and Italian Night (among many others) and have included charbroiled oysters, white chocolate bread pudding, Cuban sandwiches, spinach dip and much much more. Club dinners take place the last weekend of every month, and you’d better reserve your spot now because seating is limited! Call the showroom (225-910-6801) to reserve.
In the market for outdoor appliances and grills? There is NO better way to see what is available than to attend a cooking club dinner to see (and taste) firsthand what you could have in your own backyard. I DREAM of having this in my backyard one day, but for now I will settle on great friends, great fun, and great food at the Shopper’s Choice Cooking Club!
